Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a network protocol based on the client-server model that provides automatic allocation of IP addresses and other parameters that are required to connect to the internet such as gateway addresses, subnet masks and DNS server addresses. A DHCP server must ensure that all IP addresses that it allocates are unique - that is to say that no one else is currently using them.
TCP/IP architecture model
Unlike the ISO/OSI reference model, TCP/IP architecture is only divided into 4 layers. The exchange of information between the layers is again exactly defined and again, each service uses the services of a lower level and provides its services to a higher layer.
The OSI Reference Model and TCP/IP architecture
The OSI Model was developed by the International Organization for Standardization in order to provide a standard for computer networking. In 1984 the organization accepted the model as an international standard documented in ISO 7498.
