The New York Musical Theatre Festival is a unique festival that is dedicated to one of the countrys greatest art forms. The musical festival discovers, promotes, and supports new musical theater artists, projects, and producers, and also introduces very diverse audiences to the vibrant magic of contemporary musical theater.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival is now enjoying its fifth year of success, and is now the largest musical theater festival in the United States. Every year in the fall, the New York Musical Theater explodes onto midtown Manhattan for three weeks. During those three weeks, more than 30 productions are performed, and more than 50 workshops, seminars, gatherings, and concerts take place.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival has been called the Sundance of Musical Theater, and is now regarded as the key source for discovering new talent and new material. The musical festival has premiered more than 150 new musicals, and that is only since 2004! Many of the musicals that the musical festival has premiered in the past have gone on to become award winning Broadway sensations, as well as productions off Broadway, musicals on tour, and performances at regional theaters in 38 states and nine foreign countries.

The fantastic contemporary group Altar Boyz got their beginning bearings at the New York Musical Festival in 2004, and since that year, they have played more than 1,000 performances Off Broadway and gave birth to two national tours.

New York Musical Festival audiences have seen performances of new musicals that have been from the United States, Canada, The United Kingdom, and Australia. Some of the music styles of the concerts that have been here at the musical festival are jazz, hip hop, R&B, rock, punk, ska, country, opera, and of course, Broadway. New York Musical Festival premiers include The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Caliqula, The Portrait of Dorian Gray, and Gutenberg! The Musical! along with countless others.

Some of the special events that are held during the three weeks of the New York Musical Festival are explorations of TV and movie musicals, conversions with other New York arts organizations, and readings and concerts of brand new music.
