The Cable Tie

Over time the Cable Tie has developed from its original use as a fastener for bundling cables into an highly versatile and great all round fixing device, the Cable Tie can be used in a wide variety of applications from a speedy hand cuff for riot police to the manufacture of even the most obscure items such as bagpipes or garden ornaments. It probably has a million and one different uses and has become a necessity in any maintenance workshop or toolbox. The diversity of its fixing solutions are pretty much endless.

The early design has remained very similar throughout, although there have been some adaptations made to suit more specific applications.
Examples of these are the Panel Mount Cable Tie, the Mounting Head Cable Tie, the Releasable Cable Tie, The Marker Cable Tie and the Double Loop Cable Tie.
These are all offshoots from the basic idea although the toothed nylon strap with locking ratchet mechanism inside the head remains the same.

There has also been an increase in the variety of materials used in the manufacture of Cable ties. For example there are now UV stabilized Cable Ties, Heat resistant Cable Ties and even Stainless Steel Cable ties have been introduced in a similar design.
As well as the standard Black and Natural Nylon Cable ties, we now have the options of a multitude of colours including Fluorescents.

Other plastic fastenings have been developed over the years with a view to improving and replacing the humble Cable Tie, not one has come close to matching its versatility and popularity. It remains the worlds number one plastic fastener.
