Pick Your Anal Lubricant

By: Kelly Renaul

Have you ever wondered to yourself why and when you should use an anal lubricant? If you have asked yourself this question the first thing to be aware of is that you are not alone. Many people do not understand why they should use an anal lubricant and what the implications could be of not using one. This is why so many people get infections in their anus and rectum because they are engaging in anal sexual activities without educating themselves on the correct steps to take beforehand.

The very first thing that everyone should be aware of before doing anything sexual with the anal area is that it is not self lubricating. I will repeat, the anus and rectum are not self lubricating areas of the body, which is why you should always get help from an anal lubricant from a bottle, tube or jar. These products are probably more helpful then you or your partner even realize. They are unbelievably helpful and are guaranteed to make any type of anal penetration much more comfortable and pleasurable. Your anus can fool you at times though and can appear to be lubricated when it is actually not. When the anus feels wet, it is actually just a small amount of natural mucus and sweat that is present. This can lead to serious discomfort, irritation, and infection if anal lube is not added to the area. When you are engaging in anal pleasure the last thing you want to worry about is pain or infection, so it is imperative that you use some type of anal lubricant.

There are hundreds of different types of lubes that are available so it allows you to really figure out which one works best for you. Most people consider water based lubricants to be the best and safest because they are compatible with all types of contraception. Everyone prefers to have safe sex and most of the time that involves using some type of contraception, like a condom. When you use a condom you must consider how other things you use will affect it. There are many anal lubricants that negatively affect the latex in condoms and render them ineffective, so this is something that is very important to know. This is why so many people prefer water based lubes, because they are highly compatible with condoms. Regardless of what type of anal lubricant you and your partner choose, be sure that it is safe for everyone.
