Advice For Biking With A Toddler On Board

By: Mike Clarkson

When you strap a kid onto your cycle there are some safety concerns that you want to be sure and address, besides the obvious like everyone should wear a helmet.
When you mount a seat on to your cycle, you have some things that should be checked off before you and your little one set off over the horizon.

It is essential to realize that the added weight of a little one on your cycle will change where the center of gravity is. It’s important that you have a high quality, strong cycle with a sound frame, at the very least; to insure both you and your little one will be safe.

Abby Langford is the national examiner for a respected bicycle NGO working to help make sure that bikers remain safe and don’t forget some basic safety rules.

“You should make sure that you are a strong cyclist as the centre of gravity is raised and how your cycle handles and responds could alter,” said Abby Langford.
“Ensure that when you get going, that you are paying attention, don’t reach around to grab something or get out something, that is often when the cycle will tip over and can be tricky,” said Abby Langford.

Choose the route that you take carefully, and try to stay off busy roads as often they have a lot of confusion that make riding with a little one on board difficult and hazardous. “If you can take quieter side routes it is likely the best thing for you and for your little one,” said Abby Langford.
