When you secure a toddler onto your ride there are some safety concerns that you want to be sure and cover off, besides the obvious like everyone should wear a helmet. When you attach a carrier on to your ride, you have some issues that need to be examined before you and your little one pedal off over the horizon. It is essential to realize that having the added weight of a little one on your ride will effect where the center of gravity is. It’s important that you have a good quality, strong ride with a robust frame, at the very least; to insure both you and your little one will be safe. Cheryl Elmo is the national examiner for a respected bicycle NGO working to help make sure that bikers remain safe and remember some basic safety rules. “Make sure that you are a capable rider as the centre of gravity is raised and how your ride operates and responds could change,” said Cheryl Elmo. “Make sure that when you get going, that you are paying attention, don’t reach around to grab something or get out something, that is often when the ride will tip over and can be dangerous,” said Cheryl Elmo. Choose the ride that you take carefully, and try to stay away from busy arterials as often they have a lot of confusion that make riding with a little one on board tricky and hazardous. “If you are able to take quieter side routes it is likely the best thing for you and for your little one,” said Cheryl Elmo.
